tea

I received a sample pack (2 tea bags) of this tea from Influenster in the #FrostyVoxBox to try and review.

Description: This is a decaf green tea with peppermint flavoring

Pros: Delicious with a few drops of honey, perfect for a bedtime hot drink, green tea is good for you!

Cons: I would like to see this in caffeinated form. They probably have it but I was only sent the decaf to try.

Overall, the taste was refreshing and familiar at the same time. It did well in calming me down before bed while still maintaining the holiday feel. This is definitely a drink I would recommend if you’re looking for a holiday treat.

I was one of the lucky ones to be gifted with the Frosty Voxbox via Influenster this season. I will describe the contents using the numbers they have in the image above to make things easier.

  1.  Fruit Vines Bites
  2. Eco-Tools Hairbrush (I got the large paddle brush)
  3. Boot’s No7 Protect & Perfect Intense ADVANCED Serum.
  4. NYC Expert Last Lip Color in Sugar Plum
  5. Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner
  6. McCormick Gourmet Thyme
  7. Celestial Seasoning Candy Cane Lane Decaf Green Tea
  8. Rimmel Gentle Eye Makeup Remover

Since it’s the holiday season and a lot is going on (sitting on the couch watching movies and tv shows all day and night…you know…important things) I haven’t had a chance to try everything but I did get to use a few items that I’ll briefly review.

  •  Fruit Vine Bites – A little thicker than I usually like in fruit vine candy but they were delicious, nonetheless. My 6 yr old son and my husband both loved them so I let them devour the bag.
  • Eco Tools Hairbrush – This one I gave to my son because I already have 4 hairbrushes of my own, 1 of which is brand new. My son has thick, wavy hair and he hates brushing it (he’s only 6 years old). With this Eco Tools brush, since it’s lightweight he didn’t mind when I took it through his hair. It’s smooth, didn’t snag on any hair strands, and did a good job.
  • McCormick Gourmet Thyme – This is an old favorite from my childhood. My mom always had this and many others in her kitchen. I used this to add some flavor to some cheesy chili and cheese dogs I made last night. The herb isn’t overwhelming but adds a nice taste to most any dish, including the chili. I highly recommend this as a staple to any kitchen regardless of your cooking level/desire.
  • Celestial Seasoning Candy Cane Lane Decaf Green Tea – This sample pack came with two tea bags. I offered one to my husband but he declined so I was able to have this tea two nights in a row. I added a couple of drops of honey to add some sweetener and it was delicious. The peppermint gives it a nice refreshing taste while the decaf green tea adds that familiar, relaxing flavor that I’m so used to when drinking green tea. I was actually a little bummed when I drank my last cup because I could have this tea every night over the holidays. It’s the perfect holiday treat right before bed.

When I try the other items, I’ll try to remember to come back here to update this review post.

Overall, the box was filled with awesome items that I can see myself using a lot, even going out to buy more like the Candy Cane Lane tea! The lipstick may not be a color that I can pull off but the eyeliner, makeup remover, and serum are things I can use in the future.

TLC VoxBox from Influenster

I was selected to receive the TLC VoxBox from Influenster for being a mom. The image above is what came in the box. Here’s the list:

  • Ivory Soap bar
  • Coupon for Free container of Bryers Gelato
  • Pack of Puffs with Lotion
  • ANEW Reversalist (wrinkle remover)
  • Shell Gas Rewards Card
  • Neo On The Go (portable spray of Neosporin)

The Ivory was a nice touch but since I won the Ivory Brand Badge several months ago (and still have a full 10 pack of Ivory bars), I decided to do something fun for my 6 year old son with the soap. We made the famous Ivory Soap Cloud! This experiment only works with Ivory, btw. You microwave a bar for about 3-5 minutes (depending on your microwave) until the soap bar becomes a large, fluffy, white cloud. The soap is still usable but it does crumble very easily. Some people mix the cloud with a tiny bit of water and press balls of it into cookie cutters then let it sit to create small soaps, while others use the soap as finger paints by adding a bit of water and food coloring to it.

Overall, this box was okay. The Puffs and Neosporin seems more geared for moms to take care of small children while on the road and the Shell Gas Card is free for anyone (you can get one online or by going to your local Shell station) but the ANEW and Bryers Gelato more than made up for that!

Red Rose Real Tea Water Enhancer

I received a free full sized product from Influenster to try it out and give my honest opinion.

Red Rose Real Tea is a water enhancer that comes in three flavors; Black Tea, Earl Grey, and Blackcurrant Raspberry. The product I was sent is the Black Tea flavor. All you do is squeeze once into a cup with 8 oz of hot or cold water (hot for hot tea and cold for iced tea). I first tried with iced cold water and was immediately reminded of the taste of my famous sun tea I used to make years ago using Lipton black tea bags. It tastes exactly like that! The best part is that this product is already lightly sweetened so you don’t need to add any extra sweeteners to your drink.

Next up, I wanted to try something unusual. I’ve been trying to give up coffee in the morning and replace it with green tea. The problem is that unsweetened green tea tastes horrible. So instead of getting up, walking to the kitchen and getting some sugar or Stevia, I reached for this bottle of Red Rose Real Tea and added one squeeze into my hot green tea. I stirred and then sipped. It was delicious!! The Real Tea gave enough sweetness and slight taste of black tea but it did not overbear the uniqueness of the green tea. Now I drink this almost every morning.

One thing to remember about the Red Rose Real Tea is that it does not need to be refrigerated, according to the bottle’s instructions so you can keep this handy anywhere you want. It’s small enough to fit in a purse so you can have it on-the-go or you can store it, like I do, in the living room next to my seat on the couch since that’s where I drink my green tea every morning. No matter where you decide to keep it, it’s small enough to store anywhere but has enough in there for 24 servings. I’ve been using it most mornings for over a week and I still have most of the bottle left.

Happy Tea Sipping!

Uni VoxBox

Uni Voxbox from Influenster

Uni Voxbox from Influenster

Influenster sent me one of their newest Voxboxes recently. In it I received: Box of Playtex Sport Fresh Balance, Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation, imPress nails in Space Cadet, Red Rose Real Tea Black tea water enhancer, Pilot Acroball pen in black ink, and NYC Expert Last Lip Color in Forever Fucshia

I haven’t tried everything yet but I will give reviews for the products I tried and first impressions of the items I have not tried.

  • Playtex Sport Fresh Balance – I have not tried these yet but they look comfortable. I’m only concerned that the scent may cause irritation as tampons have in years past.
  • Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation – This is one of my favorite products from this box. The foundation goes on smooth and evenly, does a great job covering imperfections, and lasts all day!
  • imPress Nails – I have had this brand before just another design and I wasn’t imPressed (get it?). The nails feel flimsy over time and some of them pop off with minimal effort while others take a lot of unnecessary force to remove them (unless using nail polish remover first). Its inconsistency makes me nervous about trying them again.
  • Red Rose Real Tea Water Enhancer – Yummy!! This will turn any glass of water (hot or cold) into delicious tasting black tea. I like to use cold/ice water for iced tea and it tastes like authentic sun tea. I even put a small squirt in my hot green tea every morning just to cut the bitterness and blandness of unsweetened green tea.
  • Pilot Acroball pen – It writes smoothly and the grip is nice and firm. My 6 year old tried this pen instead of our usual for his schoolwork and his writing is much more legible using the Pilot Acroball!
  • NYC Expert Last Lip Color – The color is definitely not me so I’m not sure if I will be using this product. The packaging looks nice and the lip stick itself looks smooth and easy to apply.

Overall, I’m happy with this box even if it’s not my favorite box, so far. As usual, I’m very grateful for Influenster for allowing me the opportunity to try new products. This box alone has given me 3 of my new favorite products; Pilot Acroball, Red Rose Real Tea, Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation. I will definitely be buying those three products with my own money once the free products run out.

Montagne Jeunesse Clay Spas

Montagne-Jeunesse-Red-Earth-Clay-Spa-Face-Mask-0838000320201

One of the products that I was lucky enough to get in the Violet Voxbox from Influenster was the Montagne Jeunesse Red Clay Spa. I was reluctant to try it mostly because I’m super busy but also because my 5 yr old son kept telling me how the masked looked creepy on the face of the model. I finally decided to try it anyways.

The mask is made of a soft cloth dipped in Mediterranean red clay, pulped pomegranate, and a hint of cinnamon. I immediately noticed the slightly sweet smell and felt the coolness of the mask against my hands. Applying it was odd at first. It took me two tries to find the correct holes (the hint is that there is a nose flap that covers the top of your nose. Had I known that before, applying it correctly would have been easier) but once I did I placed the mask on my face. It was uncomfortably cold at first but once my face acclimated to the temperature, the coolness actually felt nice. Since I live in Miami, it’s 80 degrees outside today even though it’s December. The coolness was a welcomed treat.

I let it sit for 15 minutes, the maximum amount of time suggested on the packet. If I had been able to take a short cat nap, that would have been the opportune time. Once the time was up, I removed the mask and rinsed my face. The first thing I noticed was how smooth my face had become and then how soft it was. I did need to moisturize a bit once my face had dried because the masked sucked a bit of that moisture out but that’s to be expected with any facial spa masks.

Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone. It only takes a few minutes out of your day and from what I can tell, the price point is only a couple of dollars in most drugstores. I got this one free but I wouldn’t mind purchasing a few more for a weekly facial treatment.

1. Goody Athletique Ouchless Headwrap
2. Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo
3. Montagne Jeunesse Red Earth Clay Spa masque
4. Sally Hansen Triple Shine nail polish color Pixie Slicks
5. SoyJoy Cranberry soy & fruit bar

The Goody headwrap has velcro in the back so that you can adjust it, which was a nice feature. It’s very thick and it keeps the scragglies at bay. The Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak dry shampoo is something that would do in a pinch, but I wouldn’t recommend replacing a proper wash with this stuff very often. The scent is cheap smelling, and it only gets rid of some of the oils. SoyJoy bar doesn’t do much for me. I dislike cranberries and the texture is gross to me. It’s not even something I could eat on my low-carb diet since the carbs are a bit high for this bar.

I have yet to try the clay masque and the nail polish but I can say, that polish is a louder color than I prefer to wear so I may not try it for a while. Overall, the Violet Voxbox was a moderate success. I’m sure I’m going to love the red clay masque and I do like the headwrap. The dry shampoo is nice to have on hand for those crazy days. The only products I could have done without are the SoyJoy bar and the color they chose for me of the Sally Hansen nail polish.

Edited to add: I just tried the red clay mask. I will post a separate review of it in a moment.

Style: Queen of the Jungle

I received this box in an Influenster Mega Voxbox that I got as a Dr. Scholl’s brand badge winner.

Price Point: $2-10

Pros

  • Easy to apply once you get the hang of it
  • Doesn’t chip or rub off
  • Looks like real professionally applied nail art
  • Wide variety of styles and colors

Cons

  • There is a lot of debris left over since each nail has 2-3 packaging pieces that peels off
  • If not applied correctly, they can lift all the way off as a whole nail

Overall, I really love these as an alternative to a professional salon nail art and even to my regular solid color painted nails. These are especially useful if you need something done quickly for a last minute date, job interview, ect.

Little Drummer Girl

As a Dr. Scholl’s brand badge winner for Influenster.com, my prize was an Influenster Mega Voxbox filled with 12 full-sized products. The imPRESS nails was one of these products.

Price point: $9-10 depending on where you buy them

Pros

  • Easy to apply – just peel and stick
  • A wide variety of styles and lengths
  • Cheaper than a trip to a nail salon

Cons

  • Supposed to last up to a week but two of the nails fell off after a day.
  • If you apply a nail crooked there’s no way to re-adjust it without permanently removing it and having to use a new one.
  • May not be worth the price if they come off after a day or two rather than a week as advertised.

Dr. Scholl’s High Heel Inserts

Part of the Sunkissed Voxbox I received from Influenster included a pair of Dr. Scholl’s High Heel inserts. The timing was perfect since I had just bought a pair of my first wedges. I’m usually a flat-shoe wearer but I want to learn to wear heels for special occasions. I heard that starting with wedges is a great way to get used to balancing and walking in heels.

The Dr. Scholl’s High Heel inserts made my feet more comfortable than they would have been without. I recommend these for those who wear heels all day or all night for a more comfortable wear, especially in new heels.
